Review Geek is a technology, gadget and tech news website with the goals of saving you time, money, and keeping you informed about the latest in the world of technology. We spend hours researching, testing, breaking, fixing, and re-testing a mountain of products, so you don’t have to.
We also don’t just repeat the news, we tell you what’s going on in a way no one else does. That includes our unique voice, a blend of hard-biting truth and snark. That means we might rip apart a clear scam product, like a fake 16 TB portable SSD, or go hands-on with an overpriced Apple cloth. We know that technology is always evolving, which is why Review Geek goes hands-on with as much new tech as possible, from the latest smartphones to e-bikes and mechanical keyboards.
Our staff has decades of experience with tech and gadgets of all kinds. Every writer here is the friend everyone calls on for advice on the best smart home products, phone upgrades, and more—even when they aren’t writing those recommendations down. Based in Virginia, How-To Geek is an independent company that remains wholly owned by its founders, Lowell Heddings and Erik Wang. Unlike many other websites, How-To Geek was built without any outside investment or corporate ownership. It remains an independent organization today.
How We Review Products
The review process starts at Review Geek’s testing lab and office in Virginia. Every product sent to our lab goes through our photo studio, so we can get pictures from every angle. Our lab team then tests battery life, benchmark scores, and more. If that means tearing apart a hot-swappable keyboard, then we’re more than happy to take on the challenge.
Once the lab team finishes its work, we send the gadgets to live with reviewers for real-world testing. If it charges a car battery, we drain the car battery and puts the product through its paces. If it takes pictures, we travel to picturesque locations to test the limits of the gadget’s cameras.
We pair devices with reviewers who are passionate and familiar with the product category, ensuring they have a baseline to sort the best e-bike from the worst or the most improved smartphone from the duds.
Review Geek also travels to tech events, from CES in Las Vegas to press events in San Francisco and even to cities in other countries like Amsterdam. Our goal is to be among the first on the ground to report on the latest and greatest, whether that’s Samsung unveiling its newest smartphones or a new Smart Home standard rolling out, like Matter.
We do not accept payments to recommend products. Our recommendations are solely the choice of our editorial team based on our real-world usage. We give high review scores only to the devices and gadgets that have earned our admiration and that have passed our extensive testing process.

Josh Hendrickson, Editor in Chief
Josh Hendrickson is the Editor in Chief of Review Geek, where he’s responsible for curating coverage to make sure you get in-depth reviews, awesome product recommendations, and timely tech news.
Josh has spent nearly a decade in IT, with four years of experience working for Microsoft, IDM Computer Solutions, and other companies. He has a lifelong passion for technology of all shapes, especially consumer tech and smart home gear.
His years of project management experience included a focus on Linux and macOS applications and troubleshooting, giving him intimate professional knowledge of all three major desktop operating systems. Josh also built and maintained PCs and servers for IDM, and was responsible for maintaining local and offline backups for the company.
Josh’s passion for technology continues today. He outfitted his house with a wide variety of smart gadgets, ran Ethernet cables everywhere, assembled Plex servers, and even built a smart mirror with just a frame, some electronics, a Raspberry Pi, and some open-source code. His vast knowledge of tech and desire to always keep up with the ever-changing world of consumer technology keeps Josh on the cusp of the lastest news, making him the perfect guy to run a news program for a tech website. Andrew Heinzman, News Editor
Andrew is the News Editor for Review Geek, where he covers breaking stories and manages the news team. He joined Life Savvy Media as a freelance writer in 2018 and has experience in a number of topics, including mobile hardware, audio, and IoT.
He graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor’s in English Literature. Naturally, this degree led him to work in education before he started writing reviews, how-to guides, news, and more for Review Geek and its sister site, How-To Geek.
When he’s away from work, Andrew enjoys playing music with friends, watching movies, buying old and useless electronics, and entertaining his cats. Danny Chadwick, Associate Editor
Danny Chadwick is the Associate Editor for Review Geek, where he produces regular articles and reviews, edits freelancer submissions, and covers daily news.
He began his tech journalism career in 2008 at Top Ten Reviews as the writer and producer of the tech news webcast Top Ten Reports throughout its 2008-2011 run. He then moved into the reviews department, where he covered a multitude of product categories until 2019. From multimedia software and malware protection to home improvement and home appliances, there are few tech categories he doesn’t have experience with. At the end of his time at Top Ten Reviews, he held the dual titles of “Multimedia and Home Improvement Editor.”
Between his time writing for Top Ten Reviews and joining Review Geek, Danny contributed to Lifewire and Fit Small Business on a freelance basis.
In his free time, Danny enjoys reading audiobooks and driving for Uber in his hometown of Ogden, Utah. He’s also an avid hobbyist filmmaker with over 30 short films and four feature film projects to his credit. Justin Duino, Reviews Director
Justin Duino is the Reviews Director at Review Geek (and LifeSavvy Media as a whole). He is responsible for communicating with public relations agencies, coordinating reviews, assigning tasks to writers, and making sure all reviews and articles are accurate and as informative as possible.
His career started a decade ago when he purchased his first Android smartphone (Motorola Droid 2). After learning how to hack and install ROMs on the handset, Duino began writing tutorials on his publication called AndroidMeter. This website eventually became a traditional Android blog where Duino and several others wrote technology news and reviews.
After several years, Duino began to work as a freelance writer for other publications. Over the years, he wrote thousands of articles and tutorials on sites such as 9to5Google, 9to5Mac, 9to5Toys, Electrek, Phandroid, and Android Central. Hannah Stryker is the Product Tester and Reviews Coordinator for LifeSavvy Media. With a background in product design and development, she analyzes products with an eye for detail and ergonomics. She has always been drawn to the testing and iteration stages of the design process. Jason Fitzpatrick, Founding Editor
Jason Fitzpatrick served as the Founding Editor of Review Geek and oversaw the site from inception until the spring of 2019. He has over a decade of experience writing in the technology and hardware field. Jason started his writing career as Lifehacker’s very first intern, working his way up to contributor and then Weekend Editor. After his time at Lifehacker, he joined the How-To Geek team in 2010.
In 2017, with years of writing informative explainers, how-to guides, and reviews under his belt, he refocused his energy to launch Review Geek. In 2019, he turned his attention to LifeSavvy—the newest member of the How-To Geek family. And in 2022, he returned to How-To Geek as its Senior Smart Home Editor. Hundreds of millions of readers have read his work and, he’d like to think—whether they’re reading about the best ways to set up a Minecraft server to play with their kids or the best scratching post to keep their cat from destroying their couch—it’s all made the world an incrementally better place. In addition to writing and editing, Jason has previously worked as a professional photographer, graphic designer, and spent over a decade as a college instructor.

Lowell Heddings, Founder and CEO
Lowell Heddings is the founder and CEO of How-To Geek. He’s been running the show since creating the site back in 2006. Over the last decade, Lowell has personally written more than 1000 articles, which have been viewed by over 250 million people.
These days, he is focused on his role running the business side of the house and building the Moka publishing platform that powers the HTG family of sites, including Review Geek.
Before starting How-To Geek, Lowell spent 15 years working in the IT field doing consulting, cybersecurity, database management, and programming. The last decade of his previous career, however, was spent mainly doing business automation for large corporations. The e-commerce integrations he created are still being used to automate billions of dollars worth of transactions today.
Erik Wang, Managing Partner and CFO
Erik Wang is a veteran in the online publishing space. He has over 15 years of experience with a strong focus in the areas of advertising, affiliate marketing, and SEO. He is instrumental in the monetization of the How-To Geek family and establishing strategic partnerships to further the company’s growth.
In a previous life, Erik came from the enterprise application software field, where he spent over a decade in consulting and implementation of electronic procurement and asset management solutions for ePlus Technology. Some of the company’s notable clients include Georgia Pacific, Aaron’s, and Kaplan University.
Erik holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Virginia Tech and is also fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
Catherine Chang, Head of Contracts
Catherine Chang is a licensed attorney in the state of Maryland. She’s responsible for all things contract-related at the How-To Geek family and serves an integral role in developing and finalizing the company’s business deals.
Her wealth in knowledge in contract law and experience in supply chain management was developed through her work in a wide variety of industries. She’s worked for a boutique law firm in Washington, D.C., multiple companies in the telecom industry, and several defense contractors in the Northern Virginia area.
Catherine has a J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law and a B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park.
